JonandBT: welcome to chat Mike.

LPHybrid:
S, please get your questions ready

JonandBT: Mike can you bold your font and set it to a colour please.

(10:00)LPHybrid disse: let us know when you're ready

(10:06)mshinoda disse: ok. all ready

(10:06)
JonandBT disse: Letter S, please ask your questions.

SarahThomas disse para (10:06): How much of the new album would you say is more agressive and how much with softer songs?

(10:06)LPHybrid disse: halt please.

(10:07)mshinoda disse: i don't know yet. we're still working on it. we have narrowed it down to about 30-50 songs, andsome of those are heavy, some are softer, and some are in between.

(10:07)ScatteredEchos: You must have quite a few songs that you could have played at the Summer Sonic shows- why did you choose QWERTY? It's a really great song- and by Summer Sonic After so many people were singing a long, I can't wait to see you guys again when you come to UK!

(10:07)LPHybrid disse: S only , and please halt with the questions for now.

(10:08)mshinoda disse: the song known as "qwerty" -- a rough title BTW -- is actually still in progress. we did those lyrics on the plane on the way to japan! i'm not sure if it'll make the album, but we liked the song enough to play it!

(10:09)System32 disse: hi mike, in the next album you will make some kind of collaboration with other bands like Korn, Adema or others ?

(10:09)mshinoda disse: i see guitar tabs and lyrics floating around online--they're not perfect, but they're close.

(10:10)
JonandBT disse: We are only askjing/answering S questions. please be patient.

(10:10)spikeShinnizle disse: Mike, opinion please - to settle an argument: independent marketing (i.e. highly organized [and selective] worldwide street team) + external distribution company vs. major company marketing and distribution =)

(10:10)mshinoda disse: on the next album - collaborations? we don't really ever do collabos on our proper studio albums, and i think we're going to stick to that for now. we don't have any plans to work with other artists at this point.

(10:10)LPHybrid disse: thank you S. T please get your questions ready

(10:12)JonandBT disse: Mike, did you see the marketing question?

(10:14)mshinoda disse: independent marketing vs. external distribution vs. major label -- it depends on your group / band / artist. if you're peaches or MF doom, independent will let you

(10:14)mshinoda disse: do things that are less commonly accepted, if you're shakira, you should probably go major.

(10:14)LPHybrid disse: letter T questions please.

(10:14)twix disse: Hey there, hope all the recording of the new album is going well. I was curious if you can see LP releasing a new single and music video before the end of 2006? or would it be more realistic to see a new (studio recorded) song & video in early 2007 ?

(10:15)mshinoda disse: origianlly, we thought we'd have an album out at the end of this year, but at this point we don't see that happening. we're doing really well, but we just need a little more time.

(10:15)treblecleff disse: thankyou for ur time and ur music it means so much do you get more inspiration from events and people or ur imagination?

(10:15)mshinoda disse: i don't know how soon...

(10:16)mshinoda disse: that's why we thought we'd play the new song live, to give you a little insight into how things are going.

(10:17)The Riz disse: Will your next albumn finally have a power balled?

(10:17)mshinoda disse:
i thought "easier to run" might have been a power ballad. but not that we have any intention of making one--that's just what the song decided to be.

(10:17)mshinoda disse: but

(10:18)The Riz disse: Who would win in a game of horse; Brad, you or Phoenix?

(10:18)
JonandBT disse: U or V post your questions please.

(10:18)mshinoda disse: if you mean power ballad like whitesnake / poison / LA guns / boston, then maybe we're not ready for that yet.

(10:19)VetaLP disse: Mike, in your recent KROQ interview you've talked about the things you don't know what genre to put in. is it about new musical instruments or something deeper? hugs from LPRussia!

(10:19)LPHybrid disse: you should do those power ballads cause they're super sweet, kthx.

(10:19)mshinoda disse: horse: joe won yesterday. phoenix would probably beat me. i'll be able to tell you better by the end of the album ;)

(10:21)mshinoda disse: genre: i just think the styles we're mixing right now are all over the place. we have really been pushing things outside the box.

(10:22)uael0co disse: hi mike, i wanted to ask you if you will ever go back to your ''Xero'' style of rapping?..i mean it was a little bit different back then,,it had more flare, personal opinion though...We all love you here in the United Arab Emirates plz come visit us soon

(10:22)mshinoda disse: but even like my fort minor album--it's a hip hop album, but a lot of the stuff isn't conventional. the LP album won't sound like FM. but it has it's own unique sound that still sounds like LP--justdifferent.

(10:23)mshinoda disse: xero: i rap how i rap...thanks for the luv. every time, i just try and say something that's on my mind.

(10:23)mshinoda disse: i'm going to change colors.

(10:23)
JonandBT disse: but the pace / delivery is more raw

(10:23)
JonandBT disse: ok. it dont matter if you're black or white

(10:24)underground260 disse: Hi Mike!! Not having released a proper (new) linkin park album since meterora which was over 3.5 years ago, are you worried about losing fans who didnt want to wait around ?

(10:24)
JonandBT disse: W X Y Z - questions ready please

(10:25)mshinoda disse: was it 3.5 years? it doesn't feel like it...but the xero song (reading my eyes) we played recently in japan is almost 10 years old, so i guess it's just a reminder how time flies...to answer your question

(10:25)whomurrybe disse: How did the back to school project in New Orleans turn out? Successful? Any progress made? Or just any general impressions from your trip? Kudos to all involved in that, by the way.

(10:26)mshinoda disse: i think the fans will be there if they like the music. it doesn't metter how long you're gone, if fans like what they're hearing, they'll be fans. look at green day or metallica.

(10:26)mshinoda disse: NEW ORLEANS:

(10:27)mshinoda disse: that's just starting. we're going out there september 7-12 (it's just after the one year anniversary of the hurricane)...

(10:27)mshinoda disse: for those who don't know, go to friendsandhelpers.org and click on the hurricane katrina link

(10:28)willowtook disse: Would Linkin Park ever think of doing concerts in small clubs again, just for the feeling of being closer to fans than you guys already are ?

(10:28)mshinoda disse: i hope you all can help out in some way--if you're in LA, drop stuff off at mr. hahn's shop (SURU on MELROSE) -- you can also shop at target online and buy stuff to be sent directly

(10:29)analogue disse: From your own personal experience what would you say are the advantages and dis-advantages to working on a solo album? Sorry but i can't think of any questions for the new LP album

(10:30)mshinoda disse: so go to friendsandhelpers.org and find out more. fort minor, linkin park, music for relief, nine inch nails, DC shoes, ecko, and others are supporting it. it's basically a back-to-school charity to

(10:30)mshinoda disse: get school supplies to the kids who need them / who were displaced by the hurricane

(10:31)mshinoda disse: fort minor album: it was fun to do. i had a great time working on different types of music and doing my own thing. it was a nice break. the only disadvantage is that

(10:32)mshinoda disse: if there are any criticisms, they fall on me individually. but that's okay, i'm proud of the record and when people tell me they like it, that's a great feeling.

Astat disse para mshinoda (10:33): speaking of reading my eyes, how was the whole process of bringing that song back, and do you plan to continue playing it? i would imagine it took a bit of work, especially with chester not being the original singer on the track.

(10:34)mshinoda disse: RME: we actually just got the idea while we were in rehearsal. once we figured out the first few notes, the whole song came back to us. that was pretty cool, seeing as how

(10:34)mshinoda disse: we hadn't played it in almost 8 years

(10:34)mshinoda disse: maybe more ?

(10:34)
JonandBT disse: Letter B

(10:34)mshinoda disse: we actually had to download it online to remember how the song started!

(10:35)BumbleBee disse: hey Michael, I've always wanted to know your opinion on moleculor structuing of cloned farm animals & the ways in which this may benefit modern healthcare. (also, I would also like to add that I think you boys are doing a wonderful thing for New Orleans)..

(10:35)mshinoda disse: ha

(10:36)mshinoda disse: i'm not an expert on cloned farm animals. i don't know enough to have an opinion at this point. but i think making a hybrid cow / chicken would look hilarious. maybe a cow with a beak ?

(10:36)mshinoda disse: a chicken with udders?

(10:36)mshinoda disse: that said "moo"

(10:37)BeyondLimitsFMLP disse: Hey Mike. I was wondering. I remembering hearing that FM was going to appear on Lil Jon's "Crunk Rock" album. Is this true? Also how would you compare songs from the "Meteora" album to the new one ?

(10:37)
JonandBT disse:Letter C, get ready.

(10:37)mshinoda disse:crunk rock: we haven't heard about it.

(10:37)BNCMajor disse: hi mike, if you write lyrics, do write things that happened just to you or also stories that you heard from other people? Or is everthing just fiction? because sometimes when listen to your songs, it's like somebody tells a story about my life

(10:38)mshinoda disse:new album: it will sound familiar, and you will recognize it as LP; butso far it has a different sound that i cannot describe. it sounds like it's older, but not vintage. more organic in some spots, like

(10:38)cuzer disse: hi Mike! will the new cd have some special edition, LPTV or something different?when LPTV be released?loves from Poland!!

(10:39)mshinoda disse:just yesterday we recorded a song with no samples that is completely raw. other songs are full of samples. lots of variety at this point--but we don't know which songs will make the final album.

(10:40)corellius disse: Are we (LPU members) going to have any exclusive music before album drops? And when LP.com will be back online? Last but not least - greetings from Polish fans!

(10:40)mshinoda disse:you'll have to keep an eye on LP.com and LPU.com for info on any LPTV stuff...thanks

(10:40)
JonandBT disse:letter d get ready

(10:40)mshinoda disse: lyrics:

(10:41)mshinoda disse: lyrics: nothing is fiction. everything is from real life. a lot of it is made of morphed stories that are part chester and part me, because we write together sometimes. since

(10:42)mshinoda disse: we're both writing from our own experiences, the ideas of the songs tend to blend together in that way. we basically just try to depict the root emotion as accurately as possible.

(10:42)mshinoda disse: for example:

(10:42)DelownLP disse: hello Mike! Can you tell about new song...this song from new alboum? and what is reall name of this song?and what about new alboum...about design...will new alboum have new original design....or not or....?

(10:43)darthyak2001 disse: How far along you guys are with the new album and are you happy with the direction it is going in musically so far? Oh, and how about a Holiday song for New Years? :-D perhaps about cows going Moo? <3 from modsquad! -PTT & DarthYak

(10:43)mshinoda disse: my memory of a fight with someone, and chester's memory of a fight with someone could have very little in common at face value. but the root emotions of maybe not being respected or feeling disappointed -- those are the same

(10:44)mshinoda disse: new album: this is the most fun i have ever had recording an LP album. it's been great. rick rubin is a great coach--he just keeps us pointed in the right direction, and we push as hard as we can.

(10:45)mshinoda disse: our music taste (LP and rick) are so eclectic, it's fun to work together.

(10:45)dcn2509 disse: just wondering, will there be any new additions to the album that people who know the 'Linkin Park' sound would not have expected ( i.e instruments, live gear) ?

(10:46)mshinoda disse: good question--i cannot divulge that information it's secret

(10:46)Demeteora disse: Hi Mike, could you tell us whether there will be some more optimistic songs [like somewhere I belong and Breaking the habit] in the new album ?

(10:46)mshinoda disse: wait and see!

(10:47)mshinoda disse: our songs have always has a little darker tinge to them, that's just our sensibility. the lyrics are still just beginning, so i don't know where they'll end up. i would like to have as much variety as possible on the album, though. i just don't like to

(10:47)
JonandBT disse: Letter E

(10:47)mshinoda disse: write silly happy songs.

(10:48)mshinoda disse: ...unless i'm doing it as a joke.

elentaari disse para (10:48): Where is your favorite place to just relax and write lyrics or read ?

(10:49)mshinoda disse: i like to relax in LA mostly, but i also like hawaii, japan, and the carribean. cabo san lucas is nice as well. more specifically,

(10:49)elpolloloco disse: Because "Remember The Name" gained some popularity after being used for various commercials and advertisements on TV over the course of the past few months, as well as having the video for the song getting exposure on MTV, why do you feel like Fort Minor

(10:49)elpolloloco disse: should be releasing it now as the next (and possibly last) single off "The Rising Tied?"

(10:49)mshinoda disse: i like sand and ocean. but i also like snow. i don't know (ha)

(10:49)mshinoda disse: FM:

(10:51)mshinoda disse: warner bros. is heading the charge on the REMEMBER THE NAME single...we think that it's a nice way to go out on this album--the song has been such a cult hit in the sports

(10:51)Elishia disse: is there already some new art made for the new album? if so is it like the set we saw at summer sonic?

(10:52)mshinoda disse: world, and people all over have requested it for other things. we're hoping to do a new video for it--the concept for it is really cool, i think. i hope that works out.

(10:52)mshinoda disse: new art: it's still in the works. sorry i don't have more info on that one. but on another art-related note

(10:53)
JonandBT disse: F please

(10:53)FelipeLP disse: Hey Mike...What's the diference to work with Don Gilmore and Rick Rubin? Thanks! Brazil loves LP!!

(10:54)mshinoda disse: i am planning to do my first galley art show (exciting!) -- it will be in LA. i don't know the date yet, but i want to show all the original paintings from the fort minor artwork, plus a handfull of new ones. all

(10:54)mshinoda disse: all the paintings are acrylic / spraypaint / ink on canvas, and range from 24x24" to 36x48" in size.

(10:55)friendly444999 disse: Where did you get the inspiration for RIGHT NOW on The Rising Tied? It inspired a huge 30 by 40 angel painting I did for my church.

(10:55)mshinoda disse: there will be paintings from private collections (mostly from my bandmates) and a bunch that none of you have ever seen.

(10:56)mshinoda disse: RIGHT NOW: that's really cool! i got the idea from one of my favorite movies -- a film called "short cuts" by robert altman. check it out!

(10:56)FelipeLP disse: Hey Mike...What's the diference to work with Don Gilmore and Rick Rubin? Thanks! Brazil loves LP!!

(10:57)mshinoda disse: it's a really unique drama about over a dozen people and how their lives are woven together, even though they don't know each other.

(10:58)mshinoda disse: DON vs RICK - don was alot of fun to work with on HT and meteora because he's really silly in the studio, and he makes great, exciting rock records. he has a very distinctive style

(10:59)LPHybrid disse: Let's do G and H

(10:59)LPHybrid disse: need more questions to choose from

(10:59)mshinoda disse: rick is a legend. he's one of the most respected producers of all time. we can listen to a song one time, and immediately give you five things that you can do to it that will make it better. he knows his way around

(10:59)hybridsoldier2k4 disse: thanks for taking the time to do this mike, it means alot! I saw Joe's Metroid Painting in that retro gallery, I liked it, You and joe have anything up your sleeve artistically or musically reserved for the new album.

(11:00)Hybrid911 disse: Howdy Mike: Do you feel you have grown as a person as your life in Linkin Park goes on? like, do you feel as though you've changed due to your experiences and you're a 'different' Mike than what you were before LP took off? How does this effect you? Would

(11:00)mshinoda disse: just about every type of music, and can really get your ideas and momentum going

(11:00)mshinoda disse: ART: see above (gallery show)

(11:01)mshinoda disse: just like most people, i keep growing every day. i think it's important for me to learn something new every chance i get,

(11:02)G00dguy disse: do u ever get cabin fever on tour ?

(11:03)mshinoda disse: someone told me that it's our goal in life to be ahppy...andthe things that usually frustrate us are the things that aren't in our control...the one thing that we have control over is oursleves,

(11:03)mshinoda disse: and as long as we exercise that control in a positive way, we'll be happy.

(11:03)mshinoda disse: cheesy but true, i think.

(11:04)
JonandBT disse: I'm going to have to bounce soon. not eaten and its 8pm.

(11:04)mshinoda disse: cabin fever: Y E S. gotta get out and do stuff or you go crazy.

(11:04)mshinoda disse: later then jon..thanks for the help here

(11:04)
JonandBT disse: Letter I and J

(11:04)hellcloud disse: Hi Mike and greetings from Germany... so you didn't play A Place for my Head on the Summer Sonic festival, which is a great song i think, especially when you're in the crowd... You aren't planning to never play it in concert again, are you? Will you be

(11:04)LPHybrid disse: I have to leave in 5 as well - i dont wan tto get fired over this.

(11:05)mshinoda disse: hellcloud: the band wanted to play these songs...APFMH was a question, but we decided to include reading my eyes instead. hope you liked it

(11:05)mshinoda disse: HA - ok LPHYBRID, thanks to you too

(11:05)mshinoda disse: dont get fired

(11:05)mshinoda disse: maybe someone

(11:06)mshinoda disse: can take over for you guys.

(11:07)LukiSlo disse: can we expect "parental advisory" on the cover new album?

(11:08)LPHybrid disse: thank you... you've been so awesome staying so long and we weren't expecting that! {smile_smiley}

(11:08)mshinoda disse: PA: i don't know yet...there are a few cursewords at this point, but i don't know what's going to happen with that. not a big deal, i think.

(11:08)
JonandBT disse:Word. Its great seeeing you back and talking with everyone.

(11:08)JayLucH disse: Story of heavy metal(I tink),this classifides LP in a genre called "new rock",do u agree with this or do u,like myself tink u belong in a genre all by urselfs?from deepest, darkest south Africa, from the boers n hobbo's,we all luv u guys!

(11:08)lpman2 disse: Hi « Spike Shinizzle « , my name is Arthur, I'm French and I'd like to know if u are satisfied of your Ibanez RG 321 MH, do u use a Di'Marzio D-Sonic Pickup on it ? You know, I'd like to buy this guitar but she's not really expensive (about 320 $) so

(11:09)InTheEnd6008 disse: hi Mike. can u tell us what will be on LPU 6.0 cd? maybe songs from SS? my friend really want listen Pushing My Away from Summer Sonic - that was really cool! and are you play more new songs on concerts before premier new album? polish fans say "hi!"

(11:09)mshinoda disse: i gotta go soon anyway. going to the studio...a feww more questions?

(11:09)
JonandBT disse: letter K

(11:09)skankby disse: mike, what about Projekt Revolutin and ramp russian festival??

(11:10)K8ee disse: What do you do to cheer yourself up whenever you feel really insecure or down and/or miss your family whilst touring ?

(11:10)Kevv disse: Hey Mike! whats your favorite videogame? someone already asked the question i was gonna ask. this is all i could come up with. thanks for chatting it really means alot.

(11:10)imtheonlyone disse: hi mike! first i want to tell to that your music inspire me for all my draws, oh and my question is will u continue working with fort minor? i hope you come to mexico someday. lots of love!!

(11:10)KATHYxx disse: B-B-BOOYAH Cobra Holda! Thanks so much for picking my cartoon for the WYG remake contest (the autographed photo is AWESOME!). I would like to ask if there is a common theme for this album like there was for Meteora, and if there is a common thread between

(11:10)mshinoda disse: NEW ROCK: i don't know what that means. i think genres don't every really describe the bands in them, unless the genre was created to describe on band's sound (if that band started it), so

(11:10)missb disse: Mike, hi, thanks for sticking with us for so long, how do you feel about a fan writing a story about Linkin Park? love from Belguim, Big hugs

(11:10)KageJisonshin disse: sup mike u sed u have like 50 songs made...do u think u will use ur extra songs to make CDs or would u guys start from scratch when u do another new album ?

(11:10)rinkinparker1030 disse: hey mike how are you? what do you think is your greatest musical akomplishment? also, will pikachu be featured on the new LP album ?

(11:10)mshinoda disse: i don't feel lkike we're new rock. is breaking the habit new rock? is somewhere i belong new rock? i don't know.

(11:10)LinkinPark890 disse: Hey Mike, you said something about a boxset before. If you release a boxset, what goodies will it include? Also if you make a special edition for the new LP album, will it include a DVD ?

(11:11)keineAhnung disse: greetz from fort minor germany crew...is there any difference between working with lp on ht/meteora to now, after having released a soloalbum? (btw...fm concert in hamburg was awesome...worth that 15h trainride ;p)

(11:11)LPfanatic604 disse: heyyz Mike!!! Do you guys have a name for the next album and will we see these paintings that you are showing online somewhere like will you give us a link to see them??? also my little sister says hi! lots of love from Connecticut!!!

(11:11)mshinoda disse: ibanez w dimarzio - it's great for that more metal sound. i haven't been using it that much lately, but i love it when i want to play some metal.

(11:11)G00dguy disse: thanks for being here in my life, when no one else is

(11:11)hamaben disse: hy mike, will you play again a place for my head and forgotten and easier to run? dont you think that it's too sad to finish with BTH and crawling? greetings from MORROCO !

(11:12)mshinoda disse: LPU 6 CD -- don't know yet, but we want to make it REALLY good. more info to come, but i hope we can make it one of the best CDs yet.

(11:12)
JonandBT disse: Mike, we'll leave you with questions to answer. Simon / allie - you know my email address and jeanne's, thanks for the transcripts. Mike, see you on your next tour.

(11:13)LPHybrid disse: no more questions will be passed

(11:13)mshinoda disse: K8ee: to cheer myself up, i usually talk to and hang out with friends. i play a lot of video games too--i decided it's like meditating for me (except i get to blow stuff up)

(11:13)LPHybrid disse: but feel free to stay and listen/read mike's answers

(11:13)LPHybrid disse: thank you for coming to chat mike - i'm leaving my name in here just in case there are any problems (msm will alert me) but i'm getting back to work.

(11:13)LPHybrid disse: good luck with the new album and everything.

(11:14)mshinoda disse: KageJisonshin: we don't usually reuse songs. just never really feel like it. if the song isn't good enough to be released, it's not good enough period, you know ?

(11:15)mshinoda disse: boxset - never really tried to do one yet. someday.

(11:16)mshinoda disse: keineAhnung: thanks! i love my FM and LP families the same. FM may have sold a lot less than LP, but it doesn't affect how i feel about the songs. still stand behind the stuff ;)

(11:16)mshinoda disse: LPfanatic604: more info to come on fortminor.com (maybe myspace too)

(11:17)mshinoda disse: hamaben, G00dguy, JonandBT, all: thanks!

(11:17)mshinoda disse: jon and LPHybrid - thanks a ton

(11:19)mshinoda disse: i have to go make some music. have a great day everyone. don't forget to check out that friendsandhelpers.org site, and keep supporting FM and LP...you guys are the best ever. later!

(11:19)mshinoda disse: oh yeah, and i'll give more info on that art show when i get it together -- details on fortminor.com and myspace.com/fortminor

(11:20)mshinoda disse: BYE
